Daily Thoughts 11/17/2012

Sorry for not posting Daily Thoughts yesterday but we were taping the Sunday Mass yesterday all day and I was a bit tired when I got home last night. I am refreshed today so on to Daily Thoughts...

Daily Thought: A striking thought by Jesus at the end of the Gospel today, "But when the Son of Man comes will he find faith on earth?" I guess that is always the underlying question when it come to our human condition. There are so many experiences that seem to make faith difficult. That seem to direct our attention away from our relationship with God. In the Gospel today Jesus also says pay attention and be persistent. In many ways it is these two qualities that will help keep our faith alive so that when Jesus does return he will find faith! ... Key thought for our journey of life today..."Being attentive to God especially through persistence in prayer!"

Daily Prayer: O God, may your overabundance of mercy and patience lead us through the many obstacles that we place in the way of your love! Adapted from St. Gertrude the Great

Runner's Thought: When we run with God we can expect surprises, missteps and great leaps toward our understanding and in our relationship with God but we will never be alone!

Have a wonderful day with many blessings! Peace in Christ's Passion...Fr. Paul

Daily Thoughts 11/15/2012

Daily Thought: Today's first reading from Dt. Paul's Letter to Philemon is a wonderful story of faith, love and hope for the future. It is a story of reconciliation and change. It is the story of a person's journey from be property to being a person. In readings St. Paul's invitation to forgive might we pause today and look into our own lives and find that person or person we might need to be reconciled with and be able to say, "Yes, [friend] may I profit from you in teh Lrod. Refresh my heart in Christ."

Daily Prayer: Loving God, fill our hearts today with the warmth of your love, so that in loving you in all people and all things we may come to recognize your promise of love which surpasses every human desire and brings us to the good things that no eye can see which you have prepared for us!

Runner's Thought: "Run in the present moment, not from something and not to something. Strieve for a grace-filled as well as a graceful run." ...Roger Joslin

Have a great day with many blessings throughout!...Peace in Christ's Passion, Fr. Paul

Daily Thoughts 11/14/2012

Daily Thought: Time and time again our scripture tradition reminds us of our call to gratitude. Today's Gospel is one such story. It is the Samaritan's gratitude that heals him and saves him! We often talk about the three great virtues of Faith, Hope and Love but perhaps there is a fourth, Gratitude, the grace of being thankful.  St. Paul in his First Letter to the Thessalonians reminds us that "In all circumstances, give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus." As we journey through life today let us be aware of God's many gifts and be grateful even when it might be difficult.

Daily Prayer: Good Shepherd, keep us ever mindful today of your generous love. Help us to recognize your presence in all we meet, in everything we do and within ourselves. Let us always rejoice and give thanks for the enormous grace you give us, so that one day you will say to us, "Your faith has saved you, come share me joy!"...Amen!

Runner's Thought: When you run enjoy the rewards of God's presence that you often experience along the way. However remember that sometimes the most productive runs will likely come on those days when God's presnec seems elusive!

Something That Might Interest You: Talk by Archbishop Wilton Gregory about Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. A wonderful reflection on the gifts of Cardinal Bernard. Gifts we don\ not find often in leadership today!http://archatl.com/archbishops/gregory/writings/2012/abgbernardinlectureuniveritysouthcarolina.pdf

Daily Thoughts 11/13/2012

Just a few thoughts to take you through the day...

Daily Thought: Today's Gospel from Luke might seem a bit puzzling..."When you have done all you have been commanded say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'" Perhaps a better translation of "unprofitable" is "owed nothing." What Jesus is getting at is that all we have is "gift!" If we use our gifts, talents, abilities, opportunities for the Kingdom of God, then we are doing what we are suppose to do. We are "owed nothing." By living life well we earn nothing because everything is God's gift! Perhaps rather than looking for what we think we are owed it might be best to be grateful today!

Daily Prayer: God, giver of all good gifts, teach us to always have concern for the stanger, the sick and those in need and through prayer help us to see Christ in everyone we meet, because they like us are you gift. May we always honor life is Your Gift!

Runner's Thought: Running Mindfully - "When I run, I "am" running. In other words, when I run. I become running. All that I was was before the run and all that I will be again when the run is complete, is of secondary importance. For the moment, I am the run, and nothing more." - Roger Joslin
